1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396

This Chevelle refurbishment started with a matching numbers, mostly original car. It had a mid-nineties repaint in reasonable condition, bad chrome, serviceable interior and a very strong running rebuilt original engine and 4-speed Muncie transmission.  The rest of the mechanical systems were in need of repair, it was only yard drivable.

The goal with this Chevelle was not to have a dedicated show car but to end up with a very nice and well-sorted driver; the type of car that could be proudly displayed at a local show but also be driven cross country.

Since the paint still showed fairly well, repairs were made as needed and were blended into the existing paint with a perfect match. A few sections of rust were repaired with new metal being welded in place.  The bumpers, emblems and trim were replaced with quality reproductions.  The vinyl top was replaced in the late eighties and is still in excellent condition.

The Chevelle had a very thorough mechanical restoration.  The engine and transmission were running smoothly and only required some new seals and a full detail. Front to back, all systems were rebuilt and detailed--including the air conditioning and a new wiring harness was installed.

The interior only required cleaning and a new headliner. The original 8-track stereo was rebuilt and new correct speakers were installed, it sounds great.

The SS is now road trip ready with cold A/C, power windows, great vintage stereo, a smooth shifting 4-speed, strong big block and it looks incredible.
